Simcoe County – A truly Canadian Experience

Nestled between Georgian Bay and Lake Simcoe, Simcoe County covers a geographical area of approximately 4,800 square kilometres. Simcoe County is a four-season destination that boasts the longest fresh water beach in the world, Wasaga Beach, a network of world-class trails for hiking and biking, and some of the best skiing in all of Ontario. Conveniently located just one hour north of Toronto, Simcoe County is easily reached by car, bus and train.

Whether a student wishes to live in one of our cities, lakeside towns or urban communities, the Simcoe County District School Board has something to offer to everyone. The City of Barrie, home to 5 of our participating high schools, is one of Canada’s fastest growing cities; its current population is approximately 142,000. Nearly 95% of the population speaks English in the home, making Barrie an ideal location for International students wanting to improve their English skills while still enjoying all the advantages of a city: city transit, arts and entertainment, the largest shopping centre in central Ontario, etc.. Barrie’s historic downtown and waterfront are home to numerous festivals throughout the year, offering International students the opportunity to explore Canadian art, culture and music.

Our towns and urban communities offer a truly Canadian experience; communities embrace international students and offer them the opportunity to participate in a number of local events and activities, including maple sugar festivals, fall fairs, theatre productions, music festivals, etc. Our communities also provide the perfect backdrop for exciting outdoor activities, including: downhill and cross country skiing, snowshoeing, camping, fishing, hiking, biking and so much more.
